About Our Trainer
Gwen Ka’awaloa is the trainer at Kaimana Equestrian. She is a USEF Licensed “S” Dressage Judge, Dressage Sport Horse Breeding License “R” Judge, and Western Dressage “r” Judge. She is a USDF Certified Instructor for Training through Fourth Level and has earned her USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Rider Medals. Gwen also has her AHSA Hunt Seat Medal.
Gwen has been riding with instruction since age 8 and showing in AQHA, Appaloosa, AHSA/Open, Eventing, Hunter/Jumpers and Dressage. She has had the opportunity to ride with several well-known Clinicians and Trainers over the years. Her passion is dressage and she has spent the last 40 years concentrating on improving her knowledge and riding skills in dressage.
Gwen has had the privilege to train some talented horses and each one has given her the chance to become a better rider. In 2012 her goal to train and compete a horse to Grand Prix was achieved.
As a trainer and Instructor, Gwen strives to help both the horse and rider, to enjoy the journey of dressage through positive reinforcement and clear achievable goals. She gets excited every time a student/client finds the harmony in riding and especially when they achieve an award.
Students have earned their USDF Bronze and Silver Medals as well as Rocky Mountain Dressage and USDF Year End Awards. Students include Junior/Young Riders in both Dressage and Eventing. Several have qualified and attended the Junior/Young Rider Championships. Adult Amateur Riders compete in Dressage, Eventing and Western Dressage.
As a judge, Gwen enjoys watching horses and the training needed to perform a quality test. When a horse and rider demonstrate harmony and skill, I am thrilled to give that high score. It is a pleasure and privilege to judge horses and riders.
The learning opportunities as a judge cannot be measured. Gwen loves to scribe and listen to her mentors as they always expand her knowledge base. Gwen’s world is filled with listening and learning.
